Safety
Ahtna has an uncompromising commitment to workplace safety, health, and environmental protection. We plan and take the steps to maintain a world class safety program and we ensure that Ahtna employees, our subcontractors, the public, and the clients we serve are provided with a safe and healthy workplace. We plan for an injury free workplace and work that plan.
Ahtna’s Safety, Health, & Environmental Program is led by certified safety, industrial hygiene and environmental professionals with decades of construction, facilities operations, and hazardous substances experience.
Ahtna places a high priority on training and recruiting quality and highly motivated people with an in-depth understanding of the importance of safety in the workplace. All Ahtna field staff must complete OSHA construction safety and health certification training. The firm encourages lead personnel, safety coordinators, and above to acquire Safety Trained Supervisor certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. In addition, employees with the potential for exposure to contaminated sites (to include Brownfield sites) must complete training and be enrolled in medical monitoring that meets the requirements as specified in 29 CFR, 1910.120 or state equivalent and related standards (i.e., Asbestos, Lead, etc.).
Ahtna has maintained OSHA Recordable Incidence and Lost Time Incidents rates well below the national average for our industry. Ahtna had an experience modification rating (EMR) of 0.98 in 2008 and 1.01 in 2009, and has a proven track record in safety performance.
In order to further promote safety, Ahtna has instituted the three-tiered Safety Team Awareness and Recognition (STAR) Program that rewards Ahtna employees for contributing to overall safety and promotes the company’s goal of achieving zero safety incidents.
